He who is a stranger to prayer is a stranger to power.

Women are always involved in spiritual affairs. All of the women I ever asked out said that I didn’t have a prayer.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
Giovanni di Bernardone (Francis of Assisi)
Lord, I am no longer my own, but Yours. Put me to what You will, rank me with whom You will. Let be employed by You or laid aside for You, exalted for You or brought low by You. Let me have all things, let me have nothing, I freely and heartily yield all things to Your pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You are mine and I am Yours. So be it.
Amen.

Prayer As A Disinfectant (E.M. Bounds)

  • The more praying there is in the world, the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil everywhere.
  • Prayer, in one phase of its operation, is a disinfectant and a preventive.
  • It purifies the air; it destroys the contagion of evil.
  • Prayer is no fitful, short-lived thing. It is no voice crying unheard and unheeded in the silence. It is a voice which goes into God’s ear, and it lives as long as God’s ear is open to holy pleas, as long as God’s heart is alive to holy things.
  • God shapes the world by prayer. Prayers are deathless. The lips that uttered them may be closed to death, the heart that felt them may have ceased to beat, but the prayers live before God, and God’s heart is set on them and prayers outlive the lives of those who uttered them; they outlive a generation, outlive an age, outlive a world.
  • That man is the most immortal who has done the most and the best praying. They are God heroes, God’s saints, God’s servants, God’s vice-regents.
  • A man can pray better because of the prayers of the past; a man can live holier because of the prayers of the past; the man of many and acceptable prayers has done the truest and greatest service to the incoming generation.
  • The prayers of God’s saints strengthen the unborn generation against the desolating waves of sin and evil.

Lord, for tomorrow and its needs, I do not pray;
Keep me, my God, from stain of sin, just for today.

Let me both diligently work, And duly pray.
Let me be kind in word and deed, Just for today.

Let me be slow to do my will, Prompt to obey;
Help me to sacrifice myself, Just for today.

And if today my tide of life should ebb away,
Give me thy sacraments divine, Sweet Lord today.

So for tomorrow and its needs I do not pray,
But keep me, guide me, love me, Lord, Just for today.

Before You Pray Today …

Here are some suggestions to help you in achieving the most effective prayer time:

1. No Interruptions:

We live in a world that uses technology to ensure that someone can be contacted virtually anywhere they may be. Cellphones, email, faxes, telephones … the list goes on, but you have to turn off these devices of convenience, at least long enough to ensure a meaningful, uninterrupted time with God.

Close the door behind you, turn off the phone ringer, turn the answering machine on in silent mode.

2. No Distractions:

Ask your family to honor this time you have set aside for the Lord. Turn off the TV, etc. Whatever you do, try to get away from anything that is a potential distraction to you.

3. Focus:

Have a notepad to write down things that are preoccupying you or keep on popping up in your mind. Then set them aside. Give your time ofprayer your total attention!

4. List Your Prayer Concerns And Praise Items

In MyPrayerPartner, you have several areas to list…

  • the names of people you are praying for,
  • the issues you are praying for this week and
  • the areas in which you need to change personally.

As issues come up, write them down in the spaces provided and bring them to the Lord in prayer .

Also, never neglect to write down things you are grateful and thankful for.

Praise the Lord for His mercy and kindness in your life and the lives of those you care for!
